Sleep no more running time1/9/2024 and matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are on sale through January 30, 2022, with performances offered on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 7 p.m. The Woman in Black is now showing at the the McKittrick Hotel (530 West 27th Street, NYC). But if you’re up for a devilishly good scare, some superb acting and an evening that feels quintessentially New York? Run as fast as you can. If you don’t like scary movies, this probably isn’t the show for you. Despite being creepy as all hell, the show was an absolute delight and a full evening from start to finish. Not ready to leave the experience, we slowly made our way up to the rooftop bar Gallow Green for a nightcap and looked out at the city skyline. The whole experience felt like being in the midst of a horror film, right down to the unnerving, drawn-out lead-ups - those moments in every scary movie when you’re pleading with the main character, “ DON’T GO INTO THE HAUNTED DUSTY ATTIC, GODDAMNIT!”Īs the show ended, the entire audience burst into a standing ovation. To our right was the performance room, with a humble stage and rows of chairs divided by spacious walkways in between the seating sections.Ĭomplete with menacing dolls, vengeful lady ghosts, graveyards, fog and the feeling that the Woman in Black is always right behind your shoulder, the production had me literally screaming and digging my nails into my guest’s arm. ![]() It’s almost as if the staff was getting us liquored up to quell our nerves for something … most likely the GHOST STORY I mentioned. On our left was a standalone train car complete with flickering lights and a custom drink menu, which included the lavender-infused Sleep No More cocktail (which I, a lavender essential oil fiend, obviously ordered) and shots of Jameson on the house. Upon exiting the elevator, it was as if we’d emerged from a time machine and been whisked into the 1930s. And while you might assume that I, a writer and marginally educated person, would know that anything with the words “ghost story” in its title could be on par with seeing The Exorcism of Emily Rose alone in a dark theater, you would be wrong.Īs my guest and I were ushered into an old-timey elevator that looks like it could break down at any second (but is fully functioning, don’t worry), I began to feel like I had just entered the Haunted House at Disneyland - the whole place is dimly lit, and with the entire audience in masks, every person who walked by carried with them an air of ominous anonymity. I love the idea of settling into an experience without any expectations, which allows the many startles and shocks of the the-a-ter to truly tickle the senses. I have this strange habit of not researching a show at all before I see it - not even a peek at reviews. On an appropriately cold and windy fall evening, I had the opportunity to check out The Woman in Black on its opening weekend. before, this is the first time it’s gotten The McKittrick’s site-specific treatment, which means experiencing it as was originally intended: in a pub. Two years later, the show moved to the West End and has remained there - as well as touring internationally - ever since. The show was originally adapted for the stage by Stephen Mallatratt more than 30 years ago, when it premiered in a Scarborough bar. ![]() That, of course, was right before the whole world shut down, but at the time, The New York Times had named the show a “Critic’s Pick” and it picked up quite a few other accolades, including “Best Play Revival” from the Off-Broadway Alliance and nominations for three Drama League Awards.ĭirected by Robin Herford, The Woman in Black tells the story of a young lawyer who stumbles upon a small town with a grave secret. The title of the show may sound familiar for a couple of reasons: 1) the book of the same name by Susan Hill from which the show was adapted from was also made into a bone-chilling feature film starring Daniel Radcliffe, and 2) the production has actually been staged in the McKittrick Hotel once before, in early 2020. But the eccentric creative hub, which had to close its doors for much of the pandemic, is finally back in partnership with PW Productions and Pemberly Perry with the revival of the critically acclaimed immersive haunt The Woman in Black: A Ghost Story in a Pub. You probably know the McKittrick Hotel for its eerie early-20th-century charm, ghostly train cars and a series of critically acclaimed theater experiences that began with the beloved Sleep No More.

Does that sound like any of your children? I used to copy the characters and then started making my own up based on the shows I watched, my surroundings and of course my imagination. I used to watch the old Spiderman cartoons over and over again and was just fascinated by what I was seeing. Whenever I had the chance that’s what I would do. I remember as a child all I did was draw, draw, draw….and draw again. But today, thanks to animation software aimed at children, they have the wonderful opportunity of being able to create their own animations themselves with a little help from mum or dad of course. Children also have vivid imaginations and love to express it through drawing and painting.

Xbox one wwe 2k201/8/2024 So let’s start with the presentation and graphics. My expectations for this year’s release were already low, based on how little we saw from 2K leading up to release and just how poorly I feel the WWE product has been in the past year(s). Now that that’s out of the way it’s going to be sunshine and lollipops for the rest of the review, right? …Definitely not! As many who frequent this site know, I’ve handled the WWE reviewing for the past few years and have not been kind. For the record though, putting out a game in the state WWE 2K20 was at launch at $59.99 is completely unacceptable and how 2K hasn’t made any reparations for people that purchased it on release is really sad. ![]() I waited to really put out this review to include the first DLC, Bump in the Night, but they get the added bonus of having patched the game. Since the patch I still encounter some minor glitches, but nothing game breaking (everyone else has not been so fortunate from what I’ve seen). When I first received the game for review I had approximately 10 matches and I noted that 8 of those matches had massive glitches or gameplay breaking issues. ![]() ![]() Gameplay was practically completely broken and was in no way how any game should be released to the public as a finished product. You see, if you’ve been living under a Dwayne Johnson, this game launch was a huge mess. I just need to preface this review everything I discuss here will be following the massive patch 2K released.

Between 20, the number of online mattress sales skyrocketed by 60.6 percent. The report also noted that online sales have fueled the growth of hybrid mattresses. The global hybrid mattress market is expected to post a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of more than 8 percent from 2019 to 2023, according to the latest market research report by Technavio. ![]() ) The way they knew it was simple: They just surveyed their customers to see what they’re buying online and what else they wanted from Nectar. ![]() (The company already offers a high-end hybrid mattress with the Dreamcloud. Hybrid mattresses at the Nectar price point and market point was one of the demands the company knew they wanted to fulfill. Resident, which owns Nectar, Dreamcloud, Siena, Awara and Cloverlane, is adding to the hybrid mattress world with three new hybrid models for Nectar set to launch August 16.įounded in 2016, Nectar is known as the brand that changed the mattress-in-a-box industry and even managed to modify the way we shop for bedtime necessities with white glove services and an unprecedented 365-night-trial for their mattress. Increasingly, Hutchinson said, consumers are looking for “hybrid” models. “They often know exactly what they are after.” “When people go shopping for mattresses they start online and they pretty much know what they are looking for,” according to Resident co-founder Eric Hutchinson. The beds also allow companies to get really descriptive and detailed about what exactly is in their beds – fulfilling shoppers’ desire for more transparency and better allowing people to make the right buying choice for them. Hybrid mattresses are one of the most innovative developments to have happened to the mattress industry in the last decade.īoasting a combination of coils, springs, memory foam and even smart technologies, mattress makers are able to really dig into consumers’ need for very specific and disparate comfort demands with hybrids.

Gennaker vs code zero1/8/2024 ![]() CCZ/S can be made with a UV cover to remain hoisted for longer periods, making it again one step easier to use. Furling is generally easy, although practice and good gear help. It's easier to fly, and takes up less space stowed. This sail’s purpose is to increase effective AWA sailing range, and can approach close hauled angles, and handle a higher load (windspeed). CCZ/S takes design another step closer to headsail than the rest: it still has a free flying luff, but geometry and shape slide closer to a genoa. To simplify here, they're collectively called CCZ/S.Īsymmetric sails blend features of spinnaker and headsail to simplify flying. A screecher for cruising has the same general characteristics as CCZ, but for multihulls. Some sailmakers are branding names (Doyle UPS, etc.) but let’s just call it a cruising code zero (CCZ). A “code zero” for cruising doesn’t really fit what implied within racing. Now we're into it! Code sails (0, 1, 2, 3, etc.) are designed with very specific purpose (wind velocity/angle) for racing. Hoist/douse: continuous line furler (stows in bag with sail) Sailcloth: nylon or polyester (not good for cruising) or laminates (polyester and/or high modulus fibers) TWS: 5 to ? (very sailcloth / AWA dependent – closer angles = less max wind, otherwise similar to asymmetric) For broad reaching to DDW, attaching pole to clew helps project the sail to keep it filled and reduce collapsing. When close reaching, attaching the tack to pole give complete control of tack location. Using a spinnaker or whisker pole adds complexity (though still simpler than spinnaker setup), but helps the sail fly better. but a general-purpose sail is most common. There are many geometry and shape variations based on boat/purpose/etc. In general, the tack attaches at the bow via a tack lines and has a free-flying luff. It is easier to rig and fly than a spinnaker. Unlike spinnakers, asymmetric sails have only one vertical edge that can be the luff, unless hoisted incorrectly- which is symmetrically embarrassing! Sail shape is fuller in the front (luff) and flatter in the back (leech), like a headsail. ![]() Hoist/Douse: with a sock (easiest) or directly from bag Spinnakers can be designed and built as general-purpose, or for specific wind characteristics.Ĭruising chute / gennaker / MPS /asymmetricĪWA: 90°-ish (beam reaching) to 180° (DDW) if poled out.Ĭonstruction: tri-radial (best) or bi-radial Cruisers tend to over-trim to reduce the attention otherwise required, so they're rarely used optimally. Spinnakers have more involved rigging (sheets, guys, pole, topping lift, downhaul, halyard) and require more attention trimming, although catamarans have it easier because they can fly from the hulls and avoid a pole. Multihulls can use a pole or free float the sail between hulls. In some situations, monohulls can “free float” a spinnaker without pole. For monohulls, a spinnaker pole attached to tack controls the sail’s angle relative to the wind and boat. This is a symmetrical sail, so vertical edges are free flying and either can be luff or leech. Hoist/douse: with a sock (easiest) or directly from bag Sailcloth: nylon or polyester (not good for cruising), 0.4oz to 2.2oz per SYĬonstruction: tri-radial is best (and typical) older sails can be bi-radial or crosscut TWS: 3 to ? (most likely 20 to 25 TWS, but can be higher if you dare)Ĭomplexity: moderate to high, for experienced sailors easier on catamarans Hopefully we struck a balance, but if terms are unfamiliar, it might help to read some the definitions at bottom- or if you’re impatient, skip to the summary: What sail should you use? Spinnaker Putting this together was a pushme/pullyou between me and Jamie: my urge is to simplify (I’m a fan of Big Animal Pictures), Jamie wants to share detailed technical knowledge (he knows way too much about the subject). The descriptions below are for cruising context, racing applications add complexity. Does it cover all bases? No! What's the catch? Keep reading! Punchline: code zeroes are great for cruising. I knew Jamie’d make sense of it, so he’s helped me organize this primer to provide basic general information on each sail, as well as his opinion on what’s the best for cruising purposes. Differences between these sails aren’t difficult to understand, but get confusing because the names are mixed up or misused. Because Jamie is a sailmaker, I asked him for help with a response that would be useful to differentiate the options for downwind sails. This question came up on a women's sailing forum I participate in recently. There is no single “best,” because everything on a boat is a compromise, and individual styles/needs vary, but we have some opinions on the optimal choice for most cruisers. What’s the difference between a drifter, a gennaker, a code zero, and a screecher? Where does a spinnaker fit in? And if you’re a cruiser, what sail should you use for downwind sailing, anyway?

Pingas the tank engine1/8/2024 Payne was not credited for his illustrations at the time, and it is only since the publication of Brian Sibley's The Thomas the Tank Engine Man that he has started to receive major recognition. Thomas has always been shown with a curved running board in the television series. The accident, in Thomas Comes to Breakfast was partly devised as a means of correcting this. This was an illustrator's mistake that was perpetuated in subsequent books. Awdry was unsatisfied with one detail of the illustration - the fact that the front end of his running board featured a downward slope, which meant that his front and back buffers were at different levels. Thomas as portrayed by Hornby and the TV series is based on one of six E2 class locomotives fitted with an extension to the front of the water tanks. ![]() This may have been chosen simply because Awdry had a photograph to hand. Awdry selected a real locomotive for Payne to work from to create authenticity: a Billinton designed 0-6-0 E2 Class of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway. After Awdry's wife encouraged him to publish the stories, the publisher of the second book in The Railway Series ( Thomas the Tank Engine) hired an illustrator named Reginald Payne. Thomas wasn't originally based on a prototype rather, the initial stories were an accompaniment to the toy made for Christopher. This engine looked rather different from the character in the books and television series, and carried the letters NW on its side tanks, which stood for "No Where" according to Awdry. When Awdry created Thomas, the engine existed only as a wooden toy made for his son Christopher. The TV series and Hornby based Thomas on this prototype belonging to the LB&SCR E2 class The programme became an award-winning hit around the world, with a vast range of spin-off commercial products. In 1979, British writer and producer Britt Allcroft came across the books, and arranged a deal to bring the stories to life as the TV series Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends (later simplified to Thomas & Friends). ![]() Later episodes of Thomas & Friends have Thomas in a trio with James and Percy, and Percy is known as his best friend. In The Railway Series and early episodes of Thomas & Friends, Thomas's best friends are Percy and Toby, though he is also close friends with Edward. Thomas first appeared in 1946 in the second book in the series, Thomas the Tank Engine, and was the focus of the four short stories contained within. ![]() All of the vehicles in The Railway Series were based on prototypical engines Thomas's basis is the LB&SCR E2 class. Thomas is a blue steam engine and has a number 1 painted on his side. ![]() He became the most popular and famous character in the series, and is the titular protagonist in the accompanying television adaptation series Thomas & Friends and its reboot Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go.
